Enjoy

Süss oder….? Die 11 und 13jährigen Töchter von T.I. und Lil Wayne: Reginae (a.k.a. Baby Carter) und Zonnique (a.k.a. Star), haben sich (dank T.I.s zukünftiger Tiny) zusammengerauft und zusammen mit Basha (a.k.a. Beauty) und Lourdes (a.k.a. Lolo). eine Girlgroup namens “OMG Girls” gegründet.

Hörts euch selbst an…..

Eminem möchte selbst Juror in der britischen Show The X Factor werden.

1. American Star
2. Prom Queen
3. Ground Zero
4. Da Da Da
5. Paradise
6. Get A Life
7. On Fire
8. Drop The World
9. Runnin
10. One Way Trip
11. Knockout
12. The Price Is Wrong

A, B oder c?

Naaaaaaaa?

Was sagt Game bei Twitter dazu? “Curtis Jackson sold 161,000 the 1st week…….. I guess him & his family havin “Cold Turkey” for Thanksgiving ha ha ha ha………”

30 Seconds to Mars ft. Kanye West – Hurricane
Ich finde den Song richtig gelungen…

It's all fun and games!

Many many years ago, when I just graduated from High School in Germany, I used to work at a game store. I got to know a plethora of board games, roleplaying games and card games. I remember we used to sell the Royal Game of Ur and some gorgeous chess games at the place.

I definitely used to and still do have a fascination for ancient games because it is a graspable concept to people now-a-days as much as it was back then. It’s something you have in common with someone who lived so long ago in a world that is entirely foreign to us.

It also reflects a lot of the attitude and art of the people and I am really most impressed with the way Antiquity Gamecrafters is projecting it into their products. I love the stone and wood combinations that they create and at the same time attempted to recapture some of the mood of the original culture.

"Gadis Sexy Virtual Jadi Ajang Selingkuh"

gadis virtual

Misalnya mengucap ‘I Love you’ sampai seratus kali melalui mikrofon di DS.

A Christian Gamer?

I’ll freely admit that I’m a bit of a nerd. Actually… a lot of a nerd. And what do nerds do to have fun with friends? Game. I’m what you would call a casual gamer – I don’t really play computer games all that often by myself, but will generally try to get to a LAN at least once a month with a few mates to have a gaming session. What we play at these nights are often an RTS – Real Time Simulator – such as Supreme Commander, Red Alert, or Warcraft 3 (if we’re feeling old school) and a FPS – first person shooter – such as Unreal Tournament 3, Left 4 Dead, Call of Duty, etc. We’re all mature gamers – I’m the youngest at 23 – and I don’t think that any of us would be affected by the violence of such games.

However, I’ve been challenged in my thinking just recently. It was all sparked by the refusing of classification in Australia of Left 4 Dead 2. I was discussing this with my mum, arguing that I felt we needed an R18+ rating for games, especially considering that the average age of gamers in Australia is towards the mid-20’s and growing older all the time. I was saying that the people of are affected badly by violence in video games are in the minority, and generally have some underlying mental illness. My mum then used an argument on me that I had used to help me understand some new commitments in my faith.

I’ve recently become a salvo, and will become a soldier in February. As part of that decision, I have given up drinking Alcohol. Personally, having been drinking for a number of years now, I do believe that if used in moderation, alcohol can be fine, and can actually improve health. So for me, I needed a good reason to help me justify this decision – even if I didn’t find that reason for a little while after I had stopped drinking. The reason I found that responded with me the most was one of solidarity. I went to a lecture by a Lt.-Col from England who was saying that the reason Salvos don’t drink is as a stand – while people are harmed from it, then as a stand against it, we won’t partake in it. Likewise with Cigarettes, Drugs and Gambling – while there are people being harmed by it, we won’t take part in it. He postulated that if society came to such a place where people weren’t harmed by such things, then the salvos might review their decision, but in today’s society, that doesn’t look likely.

So how does that relate to games? Like with alcohol, many people are not harmed by it. Just like many people will drink responsibly, and only have one or two drinks, many gamers game responsibly, knowing the difference between games and real life, and many of them would never harm anyone in the same way that they do in the game. However, just like there are a minority of people who cannot handle alcohol responsibly, there is a minority of people who can’t determine the difference between gaming and reality. So as a Christian, do I take the same stand with my gaming as with my alcohol? The founder, General William Booth didn’t mention anything about gaming, because it wasn’t around back then. Like so many issues in today’s modern world, the bible isn’t specifically clear. When God said “Thou shalt not kill” did that apply to digitally created computer characters as well?

In doing a quick search for articles that might be able to help me, I found a site that did Christian game reviews. Great, I thought, until I started reading them. The only games that got positive reviews were games that were outwardly Christian. Obviously games such as Call of Duty and Left 4 Dead got reviews of 0 stars, but what drew the line for me was when it gave one of the world’s most popular games a 0 rating. What was this game? Tetris. It claimed that the game was designed to diminish the trinity, by having all the pieces having 4 blocks each, and it was designed to be impossible to finish. This makes it unsuitable for Christians? I don’t think so. Are Christian gamers relegated to playing games that are biblical based, and often with production standards far below the more popular games?

I don’t know the answer, and I’d love to hear some comments. For the moment, because I’m gaming for fun, and I know the difference between gaming and reality, in my mind my gaming is fine. I am open to hearing other opinions, and would love for this to stir some good discussion.

Turn Blue

Outside the practically scripted structure of the library, the rules of my game of attraction change.  There is no search of interest in widening eyes or a head-dip.  There is only one rule, really, and that is to look good, and that’s all about the hair.  Shaving happens when I feel like it, clothes cover me, and I’m in good shape.  Hair is my vanity, and I’ll pay for the extra hot water it takes to wash and condition it now that it’s grown out, and for the detangler and oil.  If I feel I look good I feel good, and I’m the opposite of celf-conscious.  I don’t swagger; I just feel good.  If there’s interest, I don’t notice.

Now that Julie’s back, outside the library is where I’d rather be.  With a weekend between us, it was easy writing that first paragraph .  Now I consider shaving the evening before the new week begins, and her face floats up before mine as the reason to shave.  So I won’t.  It didn’t stop me from washing my hair, though.  My rebellion in that arena is not having it cut.  I know no one at work likes it.  The next time someone says my hair looks good will be when I cut it short.  They can hold their collective breath.  I’ve spent enough time trying to impress the unimpressable.  It’s time I impressed myself–and anyone else who can appreciate me as I am.

Cancel My Engagements

If I were to say that my life was hollow and lonely I’d be only half right–that is, in a proprtion of each adding up to about half. I get home from work, and here I am, on the sofa. I could watch tv or read, listen to music, get on the computer, write–the same things I could do every day. I don’t want to do any of them. I run through the list like channels on the clicker. Nothing engages. I don’t even want to sit here writing this, but it’s the only thing that expresses how I feel. The other things just cover it up. Nothing much means much with no one to share it with. There’s only so much I can share with the kids that they would understand, and why would I tell them I’m lonely? Thirteen is an awkward enough age without feeling that your love isn’t enough to keep your father happy. The girls are nearly the entire portion of my life that is not hollow and lonely–that’s all they need to know. (Funny, by the time they are old enough to understand, perhaps they won’t care.) So I write and pretend I’m talking to someone who’s listening and is neither judging nor pitying me. I won’t talk to myself. I’ve heard it all before, and I’m not sympathetic or forthcoming with good advice. I don’t want a therapist, a professional listener and sympathizer with advice from books that’s been doled out to countless others before me. I want someone to be with.

Since Julie came back to work it seems my opportunities to connect with female patrons has shrivelled up, but the stress of working with Julie has simply hardened my mood and put me off my little game. Tap me with a hammer and listen to the echo. Shake me and you might hear the faint rattling of my marble of a conscience. Or is that Jiminy Cricket’s dessicated carcass? I’ve been judged and pitied at work for falling in love with Julie, so I come home to seek understanding, and all I have is pen and paper. I’d better stop writing or they’ll start pitying me, too. Now, do I watch a movie or have a drink?

Pandemic in your home...

I havent written for about a week. I was planning to the other day, and then I got sick with suspected swine flu! I am taking the Tamiflu meds that I have been prescribed and feel slightly better; the pain killers seem to help me faze in and out of the real world. All in all, I dont think I have had the worst case of flu ever, but it has been horrible. I am still not better in the slightest but should be in a few days. To take 5 mins on your hands and knees to get upstairs to the toilet doesnt really help esteem…

It was my friend Lauren’s 21st birthday yesterday, but alas I was too poorly to go out with her, and then go to work :( I will make it up to you I promise, and I hope you had a good birthday!

Today I found out that my dad has been taking great photos of Lego men!? He stole a load from me before the summer but I hadnt seen any of the produce. Here is my favourite:

Click the image to see all of his work. He does a lot of nature and macro photography, which I think is great. There is no dispute that my photography inspiration and knowledge has always come from him :)

What else have I found while laying around feeling sorry for myself…? A beautiful place called Stitch Lab, which looks too good to be true!:

When I feel better I am planning to sort out the spare room into a spare room/sewing and crafts room! I cant wait!

This living room is very cute! I love the crochet throw on the sofa, the little green table in the back and the kitchen too…:

I also want a typewriter like this! Its amazing!:

Im not sure what else to write about at the moment, my brain is a bit fried from all the pain killers. Hopefully I will feel a bit better tomorrow.

Chrissjb15's Thanksgiving Message

Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for the blessings that we have.  Even if you don’t have much, its still worth being thankful for. This is one of my favorite quotes for Thanksgiving:

“Thanksgiving Day is a jewel, to set in the hearts of honest men; but be careful that you do not take the day, and leave out the gratitude.”  ~E.P. Powell

This means that if you just eat turkey, your not really taking the message of thanksgiving. It is a time of prayer and thanks and you should take it very seriously. If there’s one thing that you do on thanksgiving, and if nothing else. No matter what religon you are, sit down and pray to God and be thankful.

Have A Happy Thanksgiving From Chrissjb15

Swimming As Exercise - Great Benefits For You

Swimming as exercise can be greatly beneficial to you. Swimming works out your shoulders, chest, back, arms and legs, all in this one exercise. Swimming will help get your muscles lean, cut and stronger. The following swimming routine will help you achieve a great looking body.

Before you begin your swimming workout you must get a full stretch in. Stretch out your legs, arms, chest and back.

Your workout will begin with a warm-up swim. Perform a freestyle swim for 6 laps (note: this is assuming an Olympic size pool, so if you are not swimming in one of these pools, add more laps on).

Now that you are warm-upped, perform a freestyle swim for 20 laps. Every 5 laps try to
swim as fast as you can, or at a quicker pace than the others.

After the freestyle swim, perform the backstroke for 20 laps.

Next perform the butterfly for 20 laps. Now if you need to rest in between any of these laps, make sure you do. You do not want to overwork your muscles. Also, make sure you stay hydrated throughout the swimming exercise.

Now you should be somewhat tired after these 3 swimming routines. Perform a cool down freestyle swim for 10 laps. After the cool down make sure that you stretch again.

This swimming routine is a tedious one, thus do not push yourself if you cannot yet complete the full routine. Work your way up to the laps and be patient, you will eventually be able to complete the above workout.

My name is Ronek Bhatt. I am 22 years old and a fitness enthusiast. I started working out 5 years ago and since then have dedicated numerous hours learning and researching about fitness, bodybuilding, diets, and other sources of healthy living.

Jade Dynasty Online

Hi7x… akhirnya niatan buat nyoba nie game tersampaikan… alhamdulillah… ^_^ Pas udahan update patch n jalankan clien’a… gagal… he7x… lah spek jelas g’ memungkinkan masih aja dipaksakan…

Nah daripada lama2 ngomong semakin g’ jelas nie diriku kasih screenshot pas tadi diriku maen aja (soal’a mau upload video g’ sanggup cz gameplay yg tadi kurekam sampai 1,5Gb dalam format .wmv dan diriku g’ rela low harus convert ke flv tow mp4, jadi untuk video silahkan nonton tow donlot di youtube aja… he7…) :

  • Situs Resmi Jade Dynasty (English)

Another way of dying?

Today I was banking at the ZMI altar underground until I saw someone type this.

Is this another way of killing yourself? It’s so hilarious how people actually mean it over a game. “Go die in a fire…” How do people even think of saying something like that? Shows the level of intelligence you have. Unnecessary..

Anyways… a little summary of my progress as of November 13, 2009

Additional thoughts on the two women tale

Poetry of Flesh left a couple of comments on my Tale of two women post and it stirred some additional thoughts and observations that I wanted to share.  Here is her first comment,

When women are conditioned the way we are, it’s incredibly difficult to break out of these behaviors. That poor little Latina, worst of all. Her own female family members betraying her… cycles of socialization.

I continue to support the idea that raising a little over half the population to be this way, basically emotional children, especially when it comes to sexuality and relationships, is an unhealthy idea, not at all beneficial to the population as a whole.

The phrase, when women are conditioned the way we are…, I think assumes that how women are raised has more to do with why game works as opposed to an innate part of a woman’s nature.  Yet, many of the examples in Robert Greene’s book The Art of Seduction are taken straight out of history.  Others examples are from literature.  Almost all of them are from a time before the four sirens of the female apocalypse reared their ugly head.  In my mind there is something more primal going on.

In regards to Poetry’s statement about  raising women to be emotional children, I honestly don’t disagree.  More than half the population seems to be indulged in their every whim.  Catered to when they don’t get their way.  And God forbid they get offended, but the entitlement mentality doesn’t solely seem to rest with the female half of the population.  In the late ’80s we had the yuppies which Bret Easton Ellis satirized so well in American Psycho. That seems to have morphed now into the SWPLers and the Hipster fad.  The manginas and white knighters are akin to the enablers of the alcoholic who feed the addiction while overlooking the damage it’s doing.

The thing about children is that you can (so I’m told and have read) start to teach them responsibility and how to make good choices from a young age.  By the time they reach adolescence the odds are better that they’ll make the right choices when you’re not around to watch over them.  They’re still children, but parents can give them the tools to succeed.  Giving children some leeway to make their own mistakes and suffer the consequences gives a better chance of having a responsible adult when they reach maturity.  What happens if,  as Talleyrand suggested, women have been selected for child like qualities?   The implication is that childish behavior in women will always be there and a part of their nature because ultimately that’s what men want.

Poetry continues,

It’s… not quite sad, but something along those lines, that the enjoyment and exploitation of this weakness in females is so celebrated in parts of the community. Bringing down sick (but, of course, hot) gazelle isn’t really an accomplishment, in my eyes at least. At best, one feels to be a mighty hunter, at worst, you’re consuming rotted meat.

I’m going to be honest and say that I’m not sure exactly what Poetry is getting at with this statement.  I hope that she may provide clarification.  My thoughts.  Men display, women choose.  Since women are the choosers, they set the rules of the game.  Men are adaptable.  Put them in a situation where they have an 0bstacle that must be overcome and some will set out and devise a strategy that works, others will drop out.  Regardless of how we’ve gotten to the sexual marketplace of today, game is an adaptation (or a rediscovery of an older truth if you will) to the situation men find themselves in today.  I fail to see how the bringing down sick gazelles statement isn’t a logical fallacy.  A variation of the no true scotsman argument.

I commented about women being celebrated and celebrating their emotionality to which Poetry responded in part,

As for celebrating their emotional response? I’m not quite sure I find that completely accurate or, at least, the sentiment I’m reading into it to be accurate. Celebration tends to have positive connotations, and I find the social support of the what is the “standard” feminine emotional state not to be a celebration at all.

I mean, this is more a celebration of, essentially, unharnessed, unexamined stupidity, not really a celebration of feminine emotion. It’s a social crippling, an overindulgence of emotional hedonism that we term “girl power” and validate its continued existence by telling the girls who do not engage in such behavior that they are unfeminine and, therefore, undesirable. It’s a constant pressure to be stupid, a value system shoved down our throats because we are defined, as a sex, by our desirability and what quality of man we can attract.

So I don’t find it to be much of a celebration, but, perhaps, more of an unexamined surrender to social pressures where we attempt to hide what we are doing to ourselves by justifying it through false attempts at glorifying our sad behaviors.

Ah, but there’s the rub.  You don’t see it as positive, I for that matter don’t see it as positive either.  But the message that seems to be transmitted to women is that it is positive and should be celebrated.  Oprah, Tyra, Disney, feminists, et.al.  promote it, laud it, and provide the social proof necessary to get a large portion of their female audience to buy into such celebrations.

Poetry finishes by saying,

I cannot imagine a society of healthy women.

Yeah, me neither, but then again I can’t image a society of psychologically healthy men either.

God tells me he can get me out of this mess, but he’s pretty sure you’re fucked.

Just kidding. I’m pretty sure we’re all fucked.

Awesome Upcoming Events With One Minor Update!

Hey guys this is Jimbercane posting. Today when I logged onto Planet Cazmo, I was shocked and happy to get to know about some awesome upcoming events. Let me start off with David Archuleta. He will be performing in Planet Cazmo again, and the concerts theme will be Christmas! Here are the details:

Make sure you come to see David perform, because not only does he have good music, but if you come, you will get a free David Archuleta Concert Ticket added to your CazBook! Next, when I was reading the Newspaper today, I noticed that one of the upcming events has to do with a Christmas theme and toys! I wonder what this will be; It sounds really cool to me!

Finally, I found a little update in the Newspaper, but it’s not really that necessary. You don’t have to read this if you don’t want to. But if you do, then here it is: In the Security section of the Newspaper, the subtitle Moderator Symbol, has a different color; It seems now that it is brown.

Tales of Innocence English Patch for Base Translation has Finished!

(c) 2007 Namco Tales/Namco Bandai
Thanks to Triforce(@ ds-scene) for the Info

It seems like Absolute Zero Translation, the fan translation group that devoted them self to Tales series has done another great Job. After their Tales of Phantasia (SFC/PS/PSP/GBA) for PS1, now they finally finished the whole base trans (that Include the story too) for Tales of Innocence.

To those who curious about how many scripts they worked, they said about 500 Skits, and *I don’t know more* , but that’s too many. Oh yeah, if you support them, don’t forget to donate to them at http://www.absolutezerotranslations.com/donations/

Because, the patch will come over your hands at the end of November(that means about 2-3 weeks from now), because they need to do final check with all the bug, and some beta testing with well known people (probably from GBATemp).

Check out their website for more Info http://www.absolutezerotranslations.com/

Game: Seiklus

Today I’m going to talk about a video game: Seiklus.

This game is an old favorite of mine (even 2003 is old in digital terms) so I’m very partial to it. My main goal here, though, isn’t to say “this game is cool and you should try it,” even though it is and you should. If you have a Windows computer and 15 spare minutes you ought to download it right now.

No, what I’m trying to do is to analyze this work from a designer’s perspective, to particulate its good qualities that we (other artists/designers) can learn from. If there’s anything more nerdy than playing video games, it’s this. Anyway, on to Seiklus…

If you watch this opening long enough, an astronaut lands on the moon.

Like many independent games, this one was a labor of love, made almost entirely by one person. In this case the author is “clysm” (a.k.a. “tapeworm”). His website is autofish.net.

The title is Estonian for “adventure:” a word the author picked up in Estonia. It’s splashed in black-and-white across the title screen and, apart from a few prompts and the credits, it’s the only word in the game. This brings me to my first point on Seiklus’ virtues:

Visual Storytelling

Words are cool. Language is awesome. But “show it, don’t say it” is a rule that even a poet should agree with, and it’s one that Seiklus follows to wonderful effect.

In this game, the player controls a nameless white anthropoid figure. She first sees this stick-man sitting on a clifftop above the clouds. He is sitting with another figure, equally white and nameless but obviously female. Above them is a full moon in a starry sky.

Then big meteor falls behind the clouds, and the man gets up as if to look for it. As he approaches the cliff’s edge, another one falls – but this time the meteorite slams into the ground just behind him. It misses the man, but knocks him off the edge into the clouds, as the woman looks on in shocked silence. The view then cuts to a sunny meadow, where the player sees the man land unharmed in the grass.

His insect-like size may explain his resilience to falling.

I just described the entire exposition; the player then takes control of the man and can start making him walk around the meadow.

The animated scene is less than 20 seconds long, and telling a whole story so quickly is commendable on its own. Imagine a three-page-long comic book with no text: that’s a rough equivalent of the dramatic “space” this introduction occupies. It’s not a complex story – the actors aren’t exactly characters so much as symbols, and their surroundings are rather abstract. But for the game that follows, it’s perfectly sufficient, and here is why:

In order to be fun, a video game (or any game really) must provide the player three things: a goal, a set of rules or obstacles between her and the goal, and a motivation to reach the goal. In Seiklus, this introductory scene offers – to some extent – all three, but particularly a goal and motivation.

When a game handles story badly, it tells the player what she wants to do (ex: “You want to rescue the princess!”) and why she wants to do it (ex: “Whaddya mean why? Princesses always need to be rescued by heroes, moron!”) Sometimes this works – it convinces the player to believe it enough to participate. More often it doesn’t, but the game is still fun because there are other, alternate goals and motivations (ex: “No, what I really want to do is stomp on as many monsters as possible, and playing further reveals more monsters to squish. Wheee!” This is the reason many games don’t need narrative at all). And if the player feels no motivation to reach any goal, then the game utterly fails to be fun.

When a game handles story well, though, it doesn’t tell the player anything – it lets her figure it out instead. This rule holds in all story-telling media. Your favorite books and movies don’t explain everything the characters are thinking and feeling, but let you interpret and even guess a little (Of course if you have to guess a lot, with no suggestions, in total confusion, the story is a different type of bad).

As I said before, Seiklus’ simple story is revealed in 20 seconds and takes perhaps four seconds to fully interpret. But those four seconds count, because the player figured it out herself. “He is unexpectedly separated from her. She is distressed. He is in a strange place and can’t go back the way he came. I want to get this guy back to his woman!” In order to draw those conclusions, the player had to empathize with the characters and imagine things from their perspective – maybe for only 24 seconds – but it’s enough to make the rest of the game meaningful. 24 seconds of actual empathy is more than I find in some video games, more even than in some of the worse movies I’ve seen.

In this case the actors (that is, clysm’s animated sprites) deserve special recognition for this success, particularly the woman. The stick-man may be the protagonist, but he makes no gestures or expressions. The stick-lady makes the story work, even off-screen.

If her reaction to the man’s fall were too dull or rigid we wouldn’t sympathize with her. If it were exaggerated or melodramatic, it would look foolish. Putting such a perfect expression on an 8-pixel-wide face is commendable.

Nominated for Best Supporting Actress: miniature white lady from Seiklus.

Her hands are held to her mouth (or lack thereof) in speechless… worry? Fear? Shock? Whatever it is, she’s upset, and can’t seem to do anything about it. More importantly, she stands still in a static setting while the shot holds on her – and then cuts away. After that, we don’t see her for a long time, so in the player’s mind she is frozen that way. The man can be made to walk and jump on things, but the woman, far above, is going to stand on that moonlit cliff, biting her nails and holding her breath, forever. And no player wants that to happen! That stickman doesn’t just want to find his girl again, he’s got to!

The tiny matter of a few seconds and a little array of pixels makes all that difference. Which leads me to…

Graphics: Crude and Lovable

All of Seiklus’ graphics look like they were drawn in Microsoft Paint. I think that’s because they probably were.

A Real Man is not afraid to draw with a mouse or use yellow.

Yes, almost everything looks like it was scrawled by a child. It’s hard to explain why this so cool, because I don’t quite understand it myself. Of course it’s also cool to see pixel-painting that oozes technical prowess, but I think clysm must have taken just as much care to make the visual world of Seiklus not ooze technical prowess. I suspect he meticulously refined those graphics to make them look that whimsical.

It would be incorrect to call the graphics minimal, but they do provide the minimum sufficient amount of information. Every color, line, silhouette, or hard edge means something important, indicates a way the man can go or a thing he can interact with. Everything else is un-rendered, left to the player’s imagination. This is not unlike the way children draw.

How does a child show that something is HOT? With RED, that's how.

I like graphics that leave something to the imagination; often a simple shape or image sticks in my mind more than a highly detailed one. For example, I never had trouble navigating in Seiklus, because I clearly remembered every part of the world that I’d seen.

More imprtantly, such images are not easy to draw – at least by me. More often than not a graphic left intentionally un-detailed just looks accidentally unfinished and fails to stimulate the imagination. Not so with Seiklus. I feel like each part of this game looks just as it should, with no part ignored. Such consistency across such a large space is remarkable.

Dirt-Simple Exploration

To play this game, the player presses the arrow keys. Left and right make the man move horizontally. Up makes him jump or ascend a rope/chain/ladder. Down makes him descend or duck. There’s no reason to duck, though, because unlike many platform games this one has no enemies and no means of dying. And when he’s underwater, the man can be made to swim. That’s it: for the massive majority of the game, that’s all the player does. And for some reason, it’s fun.

Like the story, this is not explained (except in the readme file). But after playing for 15 seconds at most, the player will have figured out everything she needs to know for the rest of the game. If she takes the time to find all the secrets, the man gains another ability, but it doesn’t affect the fact that his main means of going places is by foot. And oh the places he’ll go, because in order to win the game the player must explore every part of the world and collect all the magic macguffins.

Again, there must be a goal, rules, and motivation. The goal is to explore the whole world; the rules are walking, jumping and climbing. So why would the player want to do these things? I for one wanted to see the whole world because it was all so darn cute, so more credit to the drawing and animation. There are several treasures scattered throughout the world that the player can collect. Some treasures do useful things (like allowing the player to see invisible platforms) and some are just cool (like causing a fish to follow the man wherever he swims). Exploration itself is challenging, but not punishing (by, say, death). And of course there is the quantifiable progress of collecting the little, floating, fuzzy, colored dots. When the man collects all 600 the magic door opens and lets him win the game.

The enigmatic piano is one of the trickier parts.

The collecting process, surprisingly, falls short of annoying. Several times I was aggravated trying to find the last two or three dots of a color, or solving a puzzle to access a certain area. But this was balanced by the excitement I felt when I finally succeeded. Ultimately this rule is tolerable because the dots themselves are cute – their fuzzy flickering made me feel like they weren’t mocking me, and they made a cool sound upon being caught.

Also, once again, the player is not told to collect the dots. She may collect 100 of a given color by accident, and only later notice that the corresponding light by the magic door is lit. Then, because she figured it out herself, a task that could have been: “oh, gee, time to get more dots” is instead: “say, I bet if I get the other colors I could light the other 5 lights!” Seiklus may look like a child’s landscape, but it respects the player’s intelligence.

Rockin’ Soundtrack

This game has a few sound effects and plenty of music. The music tracks are as simple as the graphics; in fact they are all module tracks. I’ve experimented with mod tracking but lack the skill to analyze the music much.

So, on a subjective note, I love the music in this game. Playing Seiklus was my first exposure to mod music, and for a while I was shocked by the seeming paradox: it sounds like videogame music, and certainly isn’t trying to sound like anything else – yet it’s music I want to listen to. Before I discovered XMPlay, I would start this game just to listen to “Rainy Summerdays.”

There is one track that put me off. “Believe In Yourself” is a very chirpy, enthusiastic tune – but it fills a dark, underground cave. I think I understand why clysm might have chosen the track: the game already has a dark spooky place and a dark volcanic place – perhaps the dark wet place needed a certain musical flavor to render it distinct. Nonetheless I felt it was the only instance where the environment didn’t perfectly match the music – or lack thereof.

The fact that the themes are so distinct makes it all the more powerful that some places are set only to gentle ambience. Or, in some places, total silence. Such lapses are almost surreal.

The spooky catacombs lead to a silent place full of... yeah, I don't know either.

Eye-Of-The-Needle Factor

I cheated just now and looked up some other, better articles to see if they could definitively declare why Seiklus is so good. It seems their final agreement is: it’s hard to say. This game can’t be judged as others are because it seems to break so many rules; it solves design challenges with such simple elegance that it’s hard to remember they were ever there.

So for my final point on why Seiklus is a good game, I’m going to ask you, reader, to imagine the number of ways – the vast mass of permutations – by which it could have been bad.

For example if, 6 years ago, you told me “hey, I know this computer game where you play a stickman and walk around someone’s MS Paint creation collecting hundreds of colored dots,” I would have said “golly, that sure sounds like my idea of a not-very-good time.” Of course, that’s what Seiklus is and – against common sense – it’s great.

After playing it, I might have said “oh, sure, now I see. A game about a little hero exploring a cartoon world full of cute pixel graphics. How could it go wrong?” Easily. Just because clysm made it look simple doesn’t mean it is. Seiklus is so spare, has so few elements, that a small change in one of them could unbalance and ruin the whole thing. If one stage were too long or tedious… if one aspect of controlling the character were sticky or unreliable… if one screen-worth of graphics were implausible or incomprehensible… if one sound effect, repeated throughout the game, became annoying…

Any of the above (and more) could have rendered the game unplayable, unfun, or totally forgettable. So although Seiklus is made to look clumsy, don’t be fooled – clysm threaded a needle here.

And then stitched a delicious cake with it. I’ll bet you didn’t know that was possible.

Inspirational

I’m speaking subjectively here, but I don’t think it only applies to me: Seiklus is an inspiration.

Through this game I was led to Game Maker, other independent games, and the whole idea that making one’s own videogames can be worthwhile. I knew it was possible in theory, but this was the first time I’d seen one that was original, beautiful, and, y’know, good.

If I can make it through the flying hippos, what can't I do?

But, as I said earlier, no part of Seiklus is boastful; no part of it oozes technical expertise. So, when an amateur artist like me first saw it I appreciated that it was very good, but I also thought “say… I bet I could draw something like that” or “I bet I could program that effect. It doesn’t look impossible.” Tough, but not impossible, and it encouraged me to learn and practice programming and pixel art. And art in general.

Conclusion

Seiklus is a very good game for reasons that are hard to quantify or qualify. Its simplicity is its strength. Those that play it seem to either not get it at all, or remember it with great affection – like a childhood memory.

Personally, I’m in the latter category. I appreciate clysm’s hard work and generosity and I like Seiklus a lot (as you likely guessed that by the above verbal lovemaking to it). I’m not a jealous lover, so I encourage you to play it too.

  3. Setelah didownload, kemudian ditransfer kedalam Handphone Nokia S60v3 (seperti nokia 6210, nokia 5320) dengan menggunakan kabel data, Bluetooth, PC suite, dll
  7. Selamat bermain… dan semoga bermanfaat

The Epic Journey

It all started with this.  M and I went to our friend E’s dorm to have some tea and play some PS2.  It was there that we were first introduced to The Prince and The King of the Cosmos.  In time, we finished the game and yearned for more.  This is a fantastic addiction.

Today M decides to check up on Katamari.  See how the franchise as progressed.  Zomg.  There is a PS3 version.  Zomg.  I must play this game.  TONIGHT.

The journey began quite simply.  Find a Target.  Found it.  No Katamari Forever.  Decide to check out the GameStop in the same shopping center.  For shame… they have sold out.  “Fear not”, the lady in the peacoat tells us.  “There is another GameStop which carries the game which you seek.  It is in Franklin Farms.  Go there and find your precious!”

Off we went.  Down Centreville road until we spy the Franklin Farms subdivision.  It must be close!  We continue down the road until we find a shopping center.  Alas, it was not the right one.  We continue on down the road until we reach Reston.  We have almost found it!  We search high and low for the Franklin Farms GameStop!  It is not there!  What do you mean it’s not there?

Its ok.  We will continue on to the mall.  Make a right, and then another right on the parkway.  On and on we go until we, again, spot the Franklin Farms subdivision!  A shopping center!  WE MUST HAVE FOUND IT!

BEHOLD!  The promised GameStop!  WE ARE THERE!  We obtain the awesome game from the awesome random dude and his awesome tiny Asian sidekick.  The only thing keeping us from this game is his obsession with his iPhone and our Mastercard which will only accept a payment through debit.  Crisis averted!

We have found our game.  We have traveled back home.  We will now consume.

See everyone on Monday.

Salve Geral

Bandidos. Policiais Militares. Bombeiros. Guardas civis metropolitanos.

Salve. Geral. Selva. Geral. Selvageria. 373 ataques. Delegacias de polícia. Agências bancárias. Metralhadas. Ônibus. Carros. Incendiados. Escolas. Universidades. Repartições públicas. Fechadas. 25.000 detentos rebelados.

O triângulo amoroso esclarece o motivo do crime.

Flash - Case 7

Another case, this time I’ve got to add some enemies to my game.

So! Just three cases to go until I have to have a game finished, I feel that I lack a lot of experience and understanding necessary for creating a final game with Flash and ActionScript 3. I’ve needed a lot of help from “the outside” in the previous cases, and this case was no different. I got a lot of help from my neighbour and from Learning ActionScript 3: The Beginner’s Guide. Mostly input on understanding why and how to use several classes, mostly for structure.

Case 7: Time to add some enemies (or friendly players) to your game. You basically have to understand the concept of using object oriented programming (OOP) and adding artificial intelligence (AI) to one objects or more in this case – to succeed with this case. You’ll be introduced to creating a new class that will communicate with your already created “main” class.

Reflections: I understand by now that I, should, devote even more time to understanding and learning the very fundamentals of programming in ActionScript 3.0. I need to devote time I feel I do not have at all, it is a struggle when I do not really aim to be a programmer – programming isn’t why I mainly chose this education. This mental lock I have in my head has made me quarrel and reflect a lot about programming, it’s not making it easier to understand and finish every case from week to week either.

If I have learned anything over the few past months in this course, it is that I am not really suited for programming, although I try my best I feel I can’t get further than what I’ve managed this far. I don’t want to give up just yet, but I’m not far away from doing so, I do at least want to finish my game – and to fulfill the idea and concept I have in my head. I guess the game idea I had in the start was too ambitious for me.

Difficulties: I had a lot of difficulties or problems I did not understand before starting this case. What I first did was chopping the problem into smaller pieces so it would be easier to work with. I had three questions I needed answers to

  • What kind of code do I need to make a function randomly choose a number assigned to three different enemies? I want the game to have a different feeling to it each time a player starts the game.
  • How can I add spawnpoints – where the player character walks past and an enemy “spawns” coordinates to the right? I want the enemies to spawn when the player passes a certain object or point in my level. One spawnpoint should spawn only one enemy each.
  • How can I add artificial intelligence to the enemies? I want them to follow the player character along the x-coordinates.

Result: Here’s the visual result, and here is the code behind the enemies. I haven’t added the main-class, but it involves some changes related to the newly added class.

I’ll write some more words about the solution later.

So, Which Class Did YOU Choose in Borderlands??

So far so good, this game is really good.  As you can tell I purchased Borderlands, uh duh! I like the whole Diablo-esque looting and level grinding within the gameplay.

The artstyle is cel shaded yes, but has a more distinct comic book visual effect going on.  Truly amazing to look at.  The missions haven’t been boring from what I’ve done so far.

This is how the game was supposed to look originally, before the change in art style.

I’ve selected the Berserker class, since I’ve heard most people choose the Soldier class, due to its well-roundedness.

Berserker Barrage!

I’ve done every mission and side mission as of 3 hours into gaming, I’m sure there is a WHOLE lot more to go.  This game is mad deep.  Let me know your thoughts.  The review will be up shortly on GamingBits.com.

Peace.
